2000 U.S. Soldiers Have Died in Iraq

Join us to say that the war must end, the troops must come home, U.S. bases in Iraq must be closed, and we must redirect our resources to rebuild Iraq and hurricane shattered communities in the U.S. There will be candlelight vigils, direct action, and memorial services in more than 400 communitites across the U.S.

You may think that we are in too deep to get out now, that we need to see this through to the end. This is not the case. It is the continued presence of U.S. troops that is feeding the hatred of the insurgents in Iraq. President Bush needs to humble himself, go before the United Nations and ask them to take a multinational peacekeeping team into Iraq.

THE WAR IN IRAQ CAN AND SHOULD END NOW!

Tomorrow - Wednesday, October 26 - will be the day people across the country will join together in "Not One More Death, Not One More Dollar" events.Tomorrow, thousands of us will gather to remember the U.S. dead and as many as 100,000 Iraqis who have died as a result of this war.

If you are a Christian pray for the transformation of our country. As Paul said in his letter to the Ephesians, chapter six, verse twelve, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." People are not the enemy, Satan is. Therefore waging war against people is never the answer. We must pray that God will fight whatever battles need to be fought. For only through Him can true victory come.

In the Works from Quaker Dog Productions

The House of Ruth documentary is completed. At least a short 20 minute version has been completed. Now we are on to other things.
QDP has now started pre-production on a documentary about Garden City, Idaho. We will be taking a look at Garden City's past and speculating about its future. I am working on this project with Pat Conn who has recently returned to the area after an absence of 18 years. She grew up in Garden City and her mother is the Garden City historian.

FAHRENHEIT FILMS
Fahrenheit Films is the fiction division of QDP. I am currently writing the script for a drama with the working title, Jeremiah's Calling. There will be a lot of parts for college age actors and a few parent types. The star needs to be able to skateboard and be willing to learn some basic kung fu moves. Watch for casting information.

CREW MEMBERS NEEDED
Do you know anything about lighting? Would you like to know about lighting? How about cinematography? Editing? I'm looking for people to do just about everything and the good news is you don't really have to know anything, just be willing to learn. Our videos are suitable for family viewing so all ages are welcome. We have no budget, so there is no compensation. In other words, you'll be a volunteer.

Kung Fu Quaker Quote
"The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them - words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out. But it's more than that isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear."
-Stephen King "The Body"

Who Dares to Follow Jesus?

In Nazi Germany Christians could only preach, teach, or write if they first signed an oath of loyalty to Adolf Hitler. Because of this many Christians, fearing persecution by the state, did that very thing.
One small group chose to take a stand for Jesus by refusing to swear allegience to Hitler and the Third Reich. This was the Confessing Church who confessed Christ alone as having power over them. Members of the Confessing Church did face persecution. Most of their pastors spent time in prisons or concentration camps, and many like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, were executed. Most of the young men who were studying to be pastors were drafted and sent to the Russian front. Of the one hundred fifty from the Confessing Church's Finkenwalde Seminary only thirty survived.
The majority of Christians in Nazi Germany who did sign the oath fo loyalty to Hitler were able to continue preaching, teaching, and writing but at what cost? They were not allowed to speak out against the state. They were forced to display swasticas and even portraits of Hitler in their churches.
In the United States we are blessed because we have the freedom to follow Jesus if we choose. But choosing this course has its disadvantages. Remember, in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus promised, "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake." (Matthew 5:11) I have found that in choosing to follow Jesus I face persecution almost everyday.
I find it abhorrent that we have a president who claims to be a Christian and yet chooses to ignore the most basic teachings of Jesus. So I find that to support this man would be unconscionable. Yet because of this stance I have been accused of being a traitor, been called stupid and worse. And a lot of the people making these accusations are supposedly Christians.
Many Christians talk about how the United States is such a great Christian nation. But there is no place on earth that is truly Christian and there won't be until Jesus comes back to reign. We only have to look at the way we have treated Native Americans and Blacks (people Jesus died for) to see the extent of our injustice and lack of Christian character.
I am thankful for the freedom I have as an American just being able to write this, but I don't believe it was won for me by people dying in wars. I belieev that everything we have in this nation is by the grace of God and if we don't start honoring Him for it soon this nation may end up being a battlefield like Europe during World War II.
I am proud to be an American. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was proud to be a German as well. But we must never ler our patriotism overshadow our devotion to Christ, for Christianity transcends all political, geographic, and cultural boundaries.
